Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool, Maryland is 585 acres of beautiful scenery, with trails and a stone fort that served to protect the western frontier during the French and Indian War. Just over a mile away from the eastern end of the Western Maryland Rail-Trail, and just off the C+O trail, it’s a worthwile and easy stop. Truck parking is available at the Exxon at exit 12 on I-70, just a short 1½ mile hike or bike away.

About kevinmckague

I left my former dead-end job in 2006 in order to become a truck driver. I wanted a career that was recession-proof, and that offered more opportunity for adventure. Now I travel the country with my bike in the passenger seat, and look for new places to visit whenever the opportunity presents itself.
